Photography

From the first time I picked up a camera I knew I held something special. It was such a thrill to look at a print and see captured in time the emotion of the moment the shutter clicked. I want my photographs to elicit emotion. That is truly the magic of photography

Thru high school and college I experimented with photography, shooting a wide range of subject matter. After college I shot mostly landscapes as my husband and I traveled, and I documented the beautiful places, events and animals we would encounter. I have albums of snow blowing on glaciers, giant redwoods and wildflower strewn meadows filled with elk. I love to travel, and I wanted to remember every breathtaking mountain peak.

Then I had kids, three in less than 5 years. Once my kids were born, something funny happened. I stopped photographing and just snapped pictures without much thought. My kids never sat still, and I became frustrated. As they got older they didn't want their pictures taken and complained every time I pulled out a camera. So I stopped shooting until they were almost thru high school. When I picked up my photography again, everything had changed to digital. I LOVE digital. I love the instant gratification. I love that I don't have to waste money on developing images that I don't like. I love that you can take an image and put it on computer and manipulate it. The digital age inspired me to shoot again, and I am loving it.

A funny thing about where I am in my journey is that, I really love shooting portraits now more than anything else. I used to be entralled with nature, but now I love capturing people. I adore warm natural light. It doesn't matter if they are old or young, eyes still are the window on the soul. I think sometimes I get a glimpse of what God sees when I look at a person thru a cameral lens. Each one is a unique work of art.

Life

My life is full. I am a full time project manager and a part time photographer. My youngest child is now in college so I am entering the empty nest phase of life, and it is giving me time to spend on things that interest me, such as photography. My husband and I have been married over thirty years. The time has been filled with love and laughter.

My faith in Jesus Christ has been the anchor in my life when times were tough, and there have certainly been a few of those. He is the artist that inspires me the most. -Your works Lord are AWESOME!-
